Clara Town 1-7 Real FA Swans
Swans new signing Lauren Martin made a wining start to her life as a swan with an impressive debut today. However the big scoreline somewhat flatters the visitors to Clara Town this week.
The game as whole lacked intensity, pace and quality for long periods. Both sides never troubled each other in the opening exchanges and it took an untidy goal from the SWANS striker Kacey Geoghegan somehow getting onto the end of a mix up in the Clara box to find the net and spark the game into life. From then the SWANS picked up the pace a little but still looked a long way off their best. Clara stayed in the game up to half time but never really troubled the SWANS defence. Aoife Glennon continued her brilliant form of late and both her and Chloe Smullen down the wings were the most influential players in the first half.
The second half kicked off and Real FA Swans seemed to push themselves up a gear or two. Ciara McManus was now having an influence in the middle of the park and it was a mazy run by her that found Smullen who smashed the ball home. Right from the kick off Clara Town striker produced the moment of the match with a cheeky goal from all of 40 yards straight over the SWANS keepers head. Not only did she pull this off with superb quality she nearly done it again five minutes later. A few subs were sprung from the bench and it didn't take long for them to have an influence. Cailin was pulling the strings that played in Kacey Clyne who finished neatly to make it three. Lauryn Sheridan now had an influence as she added number four before putting Aoife Glennon in for five. Swans were now playing some decent football and filled with confidence put together the move of the game between Zoe Mooney, Ciara and Chloe found Kacey Geoghegan in again to make it six. Chloe Smullen then added her second of the game to finish the scoring.
Having picked up all three points the SWANS girls will know that their performances going forward will need to be better. However there still were some positives to take from today's game.
Well done girls and as always a big thanks to the large number of parents in attendance.
