New Academy Structure Launched

REAL FOOTBALL ACADEMY

Real Football Academy are now into its third season and we are delighted with the progress made by all of our players. It’s hard to believe how quickly the time has gone by. We would openly like to thank each and every parent and player that has supported us over this time. Like age and time, football has changed and continues to do so each and every season and we at Real Football Academy want to move with the times to give all of our player the chance to improve.

The FAI (Football Association of Ireland) have introduced a new PDP (Player Development Plan) which is being rolled out across nearly all schoolboy leagues within the country. We have also seen the introduction of a high standard League of Ireland structure at the young ages of u15 & U17 to work alongside the already in place U19 & Senior divisions. In 2018 this will be extended further down the ladder to u13 and will see players from the age of 11 & 12 flock to their local League of Ireland side in the hope of playing football at the highest level across the country.

At Real Football Academy, we are always trying to be innovative and give our players the very best that we can provide in terms of coaching and growing trends in modern football. We have been in consultation with various different academies across Ireland and the UK, including the FAI and our very own partnership programme, Glasgow Celtic FC over the past number of months. Further to our research & discussions we will be making some adjustments to our academy structure.

Players will no longer be categorised by age such as U10/12 etc. Confidence is one of the most important factors in a player’s development. Confidence comes from a player being able to perform comfortably in an environment where they are able to get excessive amounts of touches on the ball. At Real Football Academy, we want players to be confident in expressing themselves but above all, we want them to enjoy their football. We will now be allocating players into groups based on their social competence and technical ability. Players should also be open to coaching, have a positive attitude and a willingness to learn!

We as coaches make decisions to the best of our ability and where a player is grouped at the beginning of the selection process, is not a reflection of where they may be in 12 weeks, 36 weeks or a years’ time. If players show a combination of all the correct aspects to step up a group then they will, with their parents, be encouraged to do so – visa versa if players are in need of further development,  then we may discuss and think about moving them across or down a group.

It is important that both the players and parents discuss this and accept that this as part of our new Academy structure before signing up.
