GRACEFUL SWANS SWOOP TO CAPTURE POINTS FROM ROBUST KILLEIGH
FIRST HALF
Real FA Swans picked up there second win of the season today away to a big physical Killeigh outfit. It was Killeigh who started the strongest and had the Swans pined in their own half for the
opening ten mins. Killeigh tested keeper Grace O Sullivan on a couple of occasions but she handled everything with ease. The Swans were having some joy soaking up the Killeigh pressure and
then hitting them on the counter with the pace of Alison Bane and Chloe Smullen. In fact The Swans opened the scoring from one of those trademark breaks when a long ball from keeper O Sullivan
was picked up by Zöe Mooney who slid the ball between two Killeigh defenders into Bane's path. Alison raced through on goal and produced a great finish firing the ball over the keeper. Killeigh
restarted the game and soon broke down the swans left side. After a bit of a scramble outside the box one of the Killeigh hit a speculative effort which found its what over the Swans keeper to
tie the game at one all. The Swans were beginning to find their feet and after some good midfield play from Jess Maloney, Sarah Geoghegan & Katie Kelly, the ball was clipped over the top of
the Killeigh defense. Zöe Mooney raced onto the ball, spotted the Killeigh keeper racing from her line and lifted the ball over the advancing keeper with ease. Another fine goal in the Mooney
locker to give swans a 2-1 lead. Just before half time The Swans put the ball out of play near there own box as a Killeigh player went down injured. From the restart the Swans were expecting the
ball back a sportmanship gesture that happens up and down the country. However this was not the case on this occasion. Killeigh took the throw in, there centre forward passed it to the on rushing
midfield player who hit a fantastic shot to the roof of the Swans net. Has to be said it was a super strike but under the circumstances it left a sour taste in the swans players mouths. Half time
score 2-2
SECOND HALF
After the restart the Swans came out flying. The back four of Nicole Geoghegan, Zöe Purcell, Claire Stuart & Oonagh Cassidy were rock solid and were never under too much pressure. Another
moment of individual brilliance from Chloe Smullen put the Swans 3-2 up. Chloe picked the ball up just inside the Killeigh half and like Ryan Giggs in his prime, Chloe took on and beat a number
of Killeigh defenders weaving in and out of tackles before finally hitting the ball across the keeper into the top right hand corner. The Swans now seemed to move up a gear and were starting to
dominate. Again using there full bench this week of Aoife Glennon, Nicola Groenewald, Louise Hopkins, Suzie Burzawa & Shauna Cunningham the swans showed that they have strength in depth to
their young u15 squad. Zöe Mooney raced onto a pass from Jess Maloney before being bundled over in the box. Mooney got up and dusted herself off to fire the spot kick easily past the keeper.
Aoife Glennon then went on a mazy run down the right side, she pulled the ball back to Katie Kelly who pinged a superb crossfield pass to Nicola. Nicola looked up and played Zöe Mooneys
feet. Zöe who was already on the half turn, used her body to beat the Killeigh centre half before firing past the keeper to make it 5-2 and grab her first Swans hat-trick. As the game drew to a
close Killeigh were awarded a free kick at the edge of the Swans box. The Killeigh player struck the ball really well and scored what was now a consolation goal.
Well done to all our players today for putting in a fine performance. Also a big thanks to the parents for their consistent travel to games and of course their support on the sidelines.
